 more seriously though, i don't think they're half and half. as
an animal, they still have human thoughts and the like, and that's
gotta count for something. 

The curse is *magic*, not genetic.  It *could* be passed on to the 
children in a slightly differing form... or it may not be.  Again, its 
really up to the author.
