Caroline Seawright postulated:

Yep, and what Gerard is doing is NOT translation. Toshifumi does that.
If you want to call it 'adapting' while I call it 'transliteration',
go ahead, but Gerard does NOT translate.

Kun-chan...

I kinda hate to prolong this already dragged-through-the-mud thread, but..

<Ben pulls out his Viz Ranma graphic novels>

Ok, I'd agree that what Gerard does is probably best labeled 'adapting' or
something rather than translating, but perhaps you guys could clear some
things up for me...

The novels credit Matt Thorn in the same position as Gerard. Where does he
fit into all this.

Also, most of them list Toshifumi as 'Assistant Editor'. I suppose there's
probably some obscure beaurocratic reason for calling him that when he;s
really translating, but what puzzles me is this: in volume one, he doesn't
appear in the credits at all. Was someone else translating then? This is
all getting confusing...

<Ben pulls out his Rumic World novel for comparison>

Aha! Now _this_ one lists Gerard as 'English Adaption'. That sounds like
what we've been trying to pin down all along. I wonder why the Ranma
credits are different...
