Ok - you have some sort of direct net.connection (dialin, PPP, SLIP, shell
etc etc. UUCP doesn't cut it I'm afraid ;) )
Run your telnet program (usually called 'telnet' ;) ) and connect to
'ghost.cc.cmu.edu' port '1996'. ( In most cases, you'll get away with
'telnet ghost.cc.cmu.edu 1996' )
The Welcome message should come up, and when you've finished reading it,
connect as the guest character (thats, 'connect guest guest')
Have a look around, and if you want a character of your own, page someone
listed in the +staff command (yes, thats '+staff' then
'page nameofstaffperson=I want a character please ;)' )
Of course, having a proper MUD client is better than plain telnet. For
Unix, pick up 'Tinyfugue' at:
ftp.math.okstate.edu:/pub/muds/clients/UnixClients
ftp.tcp.com:/pub/mud/Clients
And for Windoze, try zMUD at:
http://www.rt66.com/~zugg/zmud.html
or GMUD at: (requires Win32s or Win95/NT)
papa.indstate.edu:/winsock-l/mud
Just so some others don't feel left out, MUDDweller runs on any Mac:
rudolf.ethz.ch:/pub/mud
mac.archive.umich.edu:/mac/util/comm
ftp.tcp.com:/pub/mud/Clients
And if you use some other system... email me and I'll find you a client
if you can't.
Btw, its a MUX, not a MUD (don't confuse the two ;) )
