Kamusta! :)
Here's part 6 of my sis' fanfic!

Six.
It merely seemed preposterous to Hiei that he and Kurama would not survive
to meet again. Was their training in Makai worth nothing, after all? Not
even close brushes with Death recollected should confound Kurama. He had
certainly learned, and, being the warrior that he was, he should have been
virtually indestructible.
Hiei, on his part, did not expect much trouble. The worst he could expect
from the situation was a sanjiyan with powers stronger than his, in which
case he would almost certainly be forced to use the dark powers he only
barely had in rein. And he had learned firsthand that Kurama had not met
many powerful sanjiyan in his life. He was practically safe.
Unless, of course, he would become beset with what was staring him in the
face at the moment…
Was it right to leave Hiei? Was it even right for Hiei to insist on going
alone…or had he gone too far? Had Kurama gone too far in letting him
insist? Questions like these bothered him, for they were a bad sign, as far
as the tests were concerned. He should not be so anxious about a class-A
prodigy like Hiei. Nothing much, even outside his knowing, would happen to
Hiei.
Hiei had managed to survive his first eight years all by himself.
Eventually he met Kurama, and the world no longer revolved around himself
and Yukina, his lovely Koorime twin. He had found a comrade – no: he had
found a friend. A friend, Kurama was certain. Else he would not have been
asking himself so many questions upon feeling Hiei’s presence drift away.
But exactly how anxious was he? What was Hiei to him? That was what the
tests aimed to unearth. Was he a friend, truly a friend, and nothing more,
nothing…beyond. How did it come to be that at the very thought of him a
smile crept to Kurama’s lips? How had fighting and killing come to seem so
easy? And the comfortable warmth of Hiei’s presence had not existed for
Kurama since he was parted from comrades of his mischievous youth, like Kurume.
Kurume. And Hiei. Yet there seemed to be no relation. It was the same
warmth, the same anticipation felt at each familiar footfall…but they were
of two different worlds. Hiei had to be special to Kurama in a way that was
completely dissimilar to or greater than the one wherein Kurume had been
special.
Not less.
Certainly not less.
And he knew because he had envisaged this scenario, and returned to it, over
and over. Hiei was not someone he could ever leave behind to die.
He was thinking about this when a pack of howling things emerged from the
tops of the still trees, and bore down on him.
