   Except that Akane has hit Ranma a few hundred times by now.  This story has
   already happened, with the genders reversed, and we never see Ranma saying
   "I can never trust Akane again".

Bingo; while if Ranma were to hit her it would be a big thing (since
it would be the first time ever in earnest), this ought to (perhaps in
a while) bring out some soul searching on her part.

It's also worth noting she tried to hit him first.

In fact (forgetting about this fanfic for the moment), if she doesn't
stop hitting on him, don't you think someday he may run out of patience?

I mean, we all revere Kasumi for her good nature, but I think in this
one respect Ranma out does her....
