Except that Akane has hit Ranma a few hundred times by now.  This story has
already happened, with the genders reversed, and we never see Ranma saying
"I can never trust Akane again".

I hardly think it's the same thing. Surely you've been hit by 
your girlfriend a hundred times. When a guy gets hit by a girl it's nothing.
However it seems to be considered to be morally wrong for a man to hit a 
woman, and that's my point. In the entire series, Ranma never hits Akane. 
This is about what might happen if he did.
