Kamusta! :D
Here's part 4 of my sis' Yu Yu Hakusho fanfic! :D

Four.
And only a few furtive steps out of the glade told Hiei that Kurama did
not, in fact, know where to go. It struck him as odd the instant he heard
it explained: Kurama was to be tested, also, and he had no idea as to what
lay in store. If they were in a place projected into reality by his
imagination, he should know what to expect, or at least not look so wary!
Did that mean that he would not be immune to any attacks he would encounter?
Did that mean that both of them could die?
It was senseless to die for a vague reason. Kurama had said "We would test
the extent of our friendship." As if they had a friendship. All the same,
Hiei found himself following his lead, wondering about the outcome of his
"tests".
"Watch yourself," Kurama said once, as they wandered, without any clear reason.
Hiei looked up. "I remember wanting to place grave obstacles here," Kurama
continued. "Powerful youkai I have met. And five hundred years of danger.
I suggest you use your third eye to help determine which areas of the wood
to avoid."
It was tempting to remove the bandage round his forehead, as Kurama had
instructed, but Hiei knew better. "I'll only use it when we need it most."
Using his third eye could be confusing. If he wanted to keep his
concentration, he kept it bandaged tight.
Kurama understood. They could do with only so few resources.
They kept on moving toward the light that only Kurama saw clearly, when it
began to grow, and grow brighter.
Luckily, he was able to say "Down!" just before the trees in front of them
started to explode.
Hiei scrambled to his feet and pulled out his sword. The rose whip spilled
gracefully out unto the forest floor. Kurama shouted "Face us!" into the
ensuing stillness.
There replied a rumbling sound, deeper inside the wood.
Another ball of light came crashing. Hiei and Kurama leapt away in
separate directions, and the ball tore through the growing empty space
between them. Without stopping to think, Hiei bounded toward the source of
the projectiles.
"Wait!" Kurama cried, somewhere far behind him, but he felt himself already
too far away.
A smaller ball of energy missed Hiei by a hair's breadth. Another would
have torn off his leg, if he didn't stop his leap in mid-air by changing
direction. Whoever was throwing those manic fireballs all over the place
was sharp-eyed and strong. Hiei could barely keep up with the projectiles'
speed.
He noticed one particular ball aimed straight for him, almost too late. It
was about to collide with him as he shot through the air. Out of sheer
impulse he let go of his steel sword.
"Saoh Ensatsu Ken!" he shouted, holding his joined fists out before him.
The ball of light encountered the youki shaft and promptly split in two, and
fell away on either side of Hiei.
But Hiei's flight was cut short by the impact. With cat-like grace he
landed, still cool, still invincible. His black cape fell away. In the
split-second's stun of his attacker, Hiei noticed that Kurama was nowhere in
sight.
The rumbling slowly focused into unsteady, but intelligible, words. "Who
enters?"
In the shadows, Hiei could make out two large, pale points of light that
must have served as eyes, and short, stringy tentacles snaking out from
beneath a gruesome living mountain.
"This is my domain," the malevolence said. "Pass at your own peril."
It made Hiei laugh. "Hn." He charged again.
The balls of light came as hail against Hiei. He dodged them easily, one
by one, as he sped toward the youkai. The youki sword he held was about to
come in contact with the rancid flesh, when he suddenly felt himself being
pulled away.
Myriad cold, heavy strings had wrapped themselves around his chest, arms
and legs. He could not move. He looked down to see that the strings had
come from beneath the youkai, that the stubby appendages were apparently
longer and stronger than he first thought.
"You were warned," the youkai grumbled, and another, larger pulse of light
formed between its eyes.
At that instant, a rose the color of human blood cut through the tentacles
about Hiei's sword-arm. Thus, Hiei was able to cut himself free. The pulse
of light issued from the youkai far too late. Hiei's spirit-sword had
already cut clean through it, into the youkai's brain.
The youkai bled light as it disintegrated. Hiei fell back against a tall,
stable form that had apparently been standing there long. Kurama laid a
hand on Hiei's shoulder and led him away, and kept him in a spot of shadow
that somehow managed to remain until the last beams had faded.
