Ataru DOES love Lum from the bottom of his heart, but his pride and his lust
for other women get in the way.  Lum LOVES Ataru, period.   No, they weren't
married
as of yet.  After the Second Tag Race, in which Ataru saved Earth from being
overrun by mushrooms, by tagging Lum's horn(she helped him out), they were
questioned by Sakura and Benten, on why Ataru didn't say he loved Lum.  And
the other question was asked by Sakura, "Are you going to be this way for
the rest of your lives?"  Lum: "Datcha!"  So, in this way, the future for
these two in the Takahashi universe, is wide open to speculation.

I suspect that in the future, they will marry, and have at least several
kids.  Ataru will
at least work for Lum's father, and will one day soon, inherit(thru Lum) the
family business....running the Empire!  Try looking thru the net at:
