Hmm... Being on the board of an anime screening 
society that relies heavily on fansubs, I've gotten
many chances to hear the Japanese voice actors
pronounce various words/names.

As far as I can tell, they DO pronounce the 'R', they
just don't pronounce it like you North Americans. :P

The 'R' in 'Ryouga' and 'Ranma' for example, is the
soft 'R' so common in Spanish...  I had to make that
point clear when I was writing pronunciation guides
for the names of my own characters...  I didn't want
anyone pronouncing their names with either a hard
American 'R' or an 'L'.

The same soft Spanish 'R' is used in 'Ryoko', 'Ryo-oh-ki',
and in Dragon 1/2, when Mink yells 'ikari dragon punch!'.
[This one's interesting, because you hear the 'pure'
soft R in the ikari, followed by a slightly harder one
(but still softer than the US version) when trying to
pronounce a word in English...]
