Ranma 1/2: Red Strings #5 (The Final Chapter)

Ran-chan walks through the wall, following Ranma. Amnari looks down at
her hand, and on her little finger is a broken piece of red string.
The tear rolls down her cheek as we fade to the dojo. In the middle of
the room, the strings from the Ran-people converge on a floating
light.

Ranma: So Akane was really that torn up?

Ran-chan: Yeah. Wow. Now that I think back, I felt horrible whenever I
saw her like that. Almost like it was my fault.

Ranma: Our fault. Wow... I can feel it. I can almost see her. What do
we do now?

Ran-chan grabs hold of the strings, and pulls. The light brightens by
a factor of about 4. Cut to the real world dojo. The candle flares.

Cologne: All right. Everyone concentrate on your strongest memories of
Ranma!

Cut to all the characters in turn. They close their eyes in
concentration. For each of them, show a scene of them and Ranma or
Ran-chan. Cut to the other dojo. Ran-chan is moving toward the light,
being pulled by the strings. More strings have appeared attatched to
Ranma. He is also being pulled toward the light. As they come closer
to the light, they converge, and merge into one. The strings
cooperate, but Ranma stops moving toward the light. Cut to Cologne.

Cologne: [eying lowering candle flame] no. There isn't enough strength
without Kunou. We'll lose both of them if he doesn't help.

Cologne hops off into the hall. Kunou is sitting there looking
depressed.

Cologne: Feeling down?

Kunou: Hardly, old one. This is my finest hour. My most hated enemy is
gone. But where is my goddess to share it with?

Cologne: There's something you need to see. Follow me.

They go back into the room.

Kunou: My Goddess!!!

Cologne: You can retrieve her! Think on your experiences with her!

Kunou: Yes... YES.... [half-fade to pictures of Ran-chan kicking the
crap out of Kunou] My love... I will save you!

Back in the afterlife, Ranma is suddenly wrenched toward the light,
and disappears into it. Cut back to the real dojo. The candle is
blazing. The flame then takes on a horizontal oblong shape, and goes
to the body of Ran-chan. The body is engulfed, and after a few
seconds, the flames recede, leaving Ranma lying in it's place. Moments
later, everyone opens their eyes, and look around in surprise.

Cologne: It is done. Doctor. Please check him.

Tofu goes over to Ranma, and checks his vitals.

Tofu: He's... He's alive!

Kunou: Where is my goddess... [small voice] where...

Kunou wanders out of the room, and disappears.

Everyone in the room is celebrating. Akane fights her way to the
front, and throws her arms around Ranma's unconscious form. His eyes
flutter, and open. He looks down at Akane, and puts his arm over her
back. Then they sit up. Ranma leans over to Akane and kisses her.

Akane: Ranma, I...

Ranma: I know.

Ranma: Akane... I almost forgot you while I was dead.

Akane: Don't worry... You came back for me. You always do.

They stand up, and join the celebration going on all around them.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this story. It came to me while thinking up
Ranma/movie crossovers. The original idea was Ranma/The Crow, but this
popped out instead. Crazy how ideas can morph into each other, isn't
it? Anyway, I know about the problems with the characters (probably!),
and I modified the legend of the red string to include close friends.
