Personally, I don't like SPAM either, but this seems a little extreme.  WW
must have felt that extreme measures needed to be taken.

Well, nothing else was working.  I, for one, applaud him for it.  
This list is meant to be a forum for people to discuss the art of 
fanfic writing, not a place to goof around and chat.  We already have 
scores of places to goof around and chat.  If you want to goof around 
and chat, I would rather you do it somewhere that doesn't eat up 
Kbytes in my mailbox.

I might also add that the FFML was getting a bad reputation.  I have 
on occasion suggested to fanfic writers that they join the list only 
to be told that they don't want to join, because they've heard it's 
full of useless noise.
