Personally, I don't like SPAM either, but this seems a little extreme. WW
must have felt that extreme measures needed to be taken.
Well, nothing else was working. I, for one, applaud him for it.
This list is meant to be a forum for people to discuss the art of
fanfic writing, not a place to goof around and chat. We already have
scores of places to goof around and chat. If you want to goof around
and chat, I would rather you do it somewhere that doesn't eat up
Kbytes in my mailbox.
OK, as I said, I don't like spam either. BUT, don't you think it's a little
extreme to punish people for something they haven't done? Haven't even had
the chance to do (if they were so inclined to do so)?
After all, the worst spam offenders in the past have *not* been the newbies,
but the "oldies", who get into these "Shampoo must die" or "U.S. vs.
Australia vs. the world" spam-fests.
We're already seeing posts that have been held up for several days because
the moderator has been too busy (or something) to get around to posting
them. He's been too busy to update the remailer for a while now (the
current message - from June - is that he knows he's not updated it for a
month, but he's got a new girlfriend so bug off (or words to that effect)).
When will he become too busy to pass through the newbie posts?
I think this pre-judgment of new subscribers is a bad thing.
