Once again, C&C days after the fact! Ain't I a marvel? ;)
This is a New-Character-Fic, which on the surface is a strike against
it. We all know how these tend to go - I'd go into more detail, but
Taleswapper beat me to the punch. Serves me right for being late. :)
Anyway, I loved it. I'm afraid I've never read The More Things Change
(On my to do list), but that really didn't impair my enjoyment. Tanya is a
worthy creation.
Why? Cuz she's three dimesional. She isn't perfect, or automatically
likeable/dislikeable. She has good qualities (sense of humor, guarded
warmness, etc.) and bad ones. (nasty streak, Ryogaesque sense of revenge).
Instead of the "I am the bold new challenge, and not the author's avatar,
honest!" character, we are given a believable human being, faults and all.
When the sweeps made their appearance, all I could think was, "Mary
Poppins meets Ranma." :)
I _loved_ the Unlimited Weapon school. Dunno if that was yours or from
TMTC, but it was very well done.
Noted that Kumade was named after her weapon. Yes, rakes were used as
weapons in feudal Japan. No, I don't know why. Gives new meaning to the
phrase, "Mowing down one's enemies". :)
Nabiki as information broker was a nice touch.
A good introductory piece. Make sure we see Tanya again; she's too good
a creation for one story.
