Well, the responses have gotten better! Wow!

So, moving on, away from Ranma for a bit:

"Just a Dream?"
by Lewis Burden

If anyone ever asks you to give an example of an Alternate
Universe fanfic, just hand 'em this. This is perhaps *the*
example of how to take basic source material and warp it to
your own will.

The characters in this fanfic range from basically unchanged
(Shinobu, Rei) to basically altered (Lum, Ataru) to wildly
different (Jariten, Mendo). The basic premise of dreams
becoming reality is one that could fit in your average UY fic,
but the seriousness of tone belies this.

The idea itself is a gripper: what if the UY world was being
dreamed up by a very different Lum and Ataru? We see both
the world of Lum's political intrigue and Ataru's frankly
boring Earth life from our eyes, which makes them even more
alien.

There are just so many well-wriiten bits in this, I'm not even
going to get into them. Benten in particular is exceptionally
portayed. As for Jariten...does anyone else picture him as
a twenty-year-old Harlan Ellison?

I always say that the danger of reviewing "classic" fics is
that you run out of superlatives. I'm having this problem
here. Just a Dream is *really* good. Even has a classic
cliffhanger ending.

Now, if we could just get the rest of "Still Dreaming"...
