Actually, with many mail readers (including mine), the least
time-consuming way to read mail is to enter a message and read it, then
delete it, which moves you automatically to the next message. To scan
all the messages, delete the ones that might be inappropriate (judging
solely from the subject lines, a risky business on a ML like this), and
then go back to the beginning can be a time-consuming process, especially
when there's literally hundreds of inappropriate messages. Furthermore,
some people have limitations on their in-box sizes, meaning that too much
spam like this, coupled with a few large fanfics, can push them over
their limit and cause havoc.
Really, all she's asking is to try to keep this mailing list a bit closer
to its stated purpose. It may be a futile effort on a list like this,
but I, for one, applaud her.
