While I am not a FanFic God (I have met a few...) I have written a
story with a central character that seems to violate every 'Don't _DO_
That!' rule this thread has spawned. While that FanFic is an X-man
FanFiction, I had aspirations (but no spellchecker ;]) to write a Ranma 1/2
FanFic... somewhat along the same idea.
My question is this.... If I do write this story, should I refrain
from posting it? Thanks all!

Post it. Even though I absolutely hate the idea of a powerful author inserting
himself in the fanfic, there's no reason you shouldn't write it. If people flame on
you, just ignore them. Like Misa-chan said, Internet is free space. You're free to
express your opinion and don't worry about what others think. Who knows? Someone out
there probably like these fanfics, too! Who set the rules for fanfic anyway? I know
they're good guidelines, but it is not the Bible. Fanfic, the word itself, means it is
a fictional piece of writing. You can't set bounds or rules to one's imagination and
opinion, in my humble opinion. So good ahead and post it when you're done.
