Self-study for now, will be taking formal classes in the fall.  Unfortunately, 
the book I'm relying on, while otherwise good, does not make the distinction 
between male and female modes of speech.  It tends to go for a more neutral 
mode of speech.  However, it lists "watakushi" as the formal first person 
pronoun, ("watashi" being the informal).  Hmmmm....I'll have to see what the 
teacher says when I start my formal studies.

In this case, since you are male (I assume) and you are in an unformal 
discussion, you should use Boku instead.

Hmmm....good point.  Probably something my book would *strongly* warn against.  
Then again, it's usually warning against informal speech anyway (which isn't 
bad advice, actually, in most situations).
