4. The Bay Area has several Anime Clubs, among these are:

Bay Area Animation Society, who meets on the 4th Saturday of each month at the
Empire St. Library, near Nikaku Animart, in S.J. We show fan-subbed, new
anime from Japanese broadcasts, and full-length screeners from the major
Anime companies from Japan and here in the U.S. . We also head anime shows
across the nation, in fact we were at Project A-Kon this year, and in
Missouri, and in Wisconsin, We also do gaming conventions like DungraCon,
GamesCaucus, etc..etc.. est.1993.

Now for the "Official" story...
The Bay Area Animation Society is an organization which allows fans
easier
access to Anime and Manga resources as, in many cases, these resources are
difficult
to find. We help fans locate anime product outlets and other places of
business. We
also make appearances at numerous conventions around the country.
The Bay Area Animation Society has also been providing video
support and anime
programming to conventions across the country including: GenCon (Milwaukee),
DundraCon
(San Ramon, CA), Origins (San Jose), and VisionCon (Springfield, MO). Aside
from the
shows just mentioned, BAAS also makes appearances at all of the major anime
conventions.
As of this writing, the Bay Area Animation Society has entered into an
agreement with
Fremont-based Beaman Company, an anime retailer, to hold monthly shows at
that location
beginning in July. Also, as a part of that agreement, all active BAAS
members shall
receive a discount on all items purchased through Beaman Company
(http://www.beaman.com)
either as a walk-in customer or through mail order.
The Bay Area Animation Society also sponsors several extraordinary
events such
as the "Anime Expedition" (A shopping trip covering a majority of the anime
outlets in
the San Francisco Bay Area), the "Big BAAS Barbecue" (a fun-filled day of
all-you-can-
eat BBQ, Hong Kong action films, and hourly giveaways. Note: many of the
US-based
anime companies donate prizes for this and it is loads of fun!!!), and
"BAAS's Year
End Bash" (a party thrown in celebration of the holiday season with gift
exchanges, door
prizes, and other neat events). Our showings and certain special events are
free to the
public at large.
For an annual $20 membership fee you will receive the following:
- A membership card good for special BAAS discounts (see the above),
offers, and
includes admission to our unique "member only" events.
- A full color membership t-shirt featuring the club's mascots,
Dotsumi and Keni-
san.(Note: You do not receive another shirt when you renew your
membership!!!)
- A subscription to the BAAS fan magazine, The 'Zine, which is stuffed
with news
and information from both the anime industry and our numerous fan
correspondents
        all over the world.
