Warped reality part 2.03

[ thoughts ]
Waking up in a strange bed with nightmares of ending up in
Japan in not the best way to start out your day. Finding out that all of
your nightmares are true and you actually have lost a month of your life
is worse. Much worse.
It took Conrad the better part of an hour to come to grips with
where he was. Once that was taken care of however he went back to being
his normal carefree self. Having accepted what had happened he decided
not to worry about it anymore.
[From now on I will just see what can be done about my memory
loss and try to go on as if it never happened.] He thought to himself. [Yah,
and hey when I think about it it didn't happen.] Conrad lapsed into talking
to himself "Sure its alright. I'll just have to deal with this by myself."
Despite this decision he decided to ask what had been found out
about how he had gotten here and what he had been doing for the last few
months.
"Well Conrad we did some checking" said Mr. Hollister, one of the
more important members of the U.S. embassy. "It seems that after you left
for Japan last week your parents also left town. After talking to your
Grandparents we learned that they had decided to go on a road trip to see
the grand canyon and much of the west. We will try to get in contact with
them as soon as possible to tell them what has happened but it looks like
you will remain on your own for at least another two weeks."
"The Doctor and I have discussed matters and we both believe
that it is in your best interests to remain here and finish your summer trip
as planed. We have made arrangements to get you included in a fifth year
English class at the nearby Juuban high school. We think that you should
be able to pick the language back up quickly. The doctor told me that one
of the best ways to regain your memories would be to relearn what you
have forgotten. We would also like you to continue on with any activities
that you had planned on before your accident. Try to get along with your
life with as little disruption as possible.
After being dropped off at the same school that he had visited
earlier Conrad was lead to the English department. "You can wait here until
your first class starts and we can get you a tutor" said Hiroshi sensei.
Class began about half an hour later. "Class, this is Conrad
Borsting, An American who will be staying in japan for this summer.
He is in this class to learn Japanese. You will all be courteous and
helpful. Mizuno Ami, because you are the farthest along in your studies
you will be his tutor. I am giving you the responsibility to make sure
that he learns enough Japanese to pass the level one examination that
will be held next Wednesday. Your grade for this quarter will be found
by averaging both your and his final grades." Greeting the teachers last
remark a wave of sound quickly traversed the classroom. With one glance
the "tall" five foot ten, English teacher silenced the class and began the
days lesson.
Three days of hard practicing latter
< Well > Ami said < I think that you are finally ready to meet some
of my friends and come with us to a movie without embarrassing yourself.
It will be a good test of how much you have learned so far.>
< I would like that> Conrad replied slowly, taking his time to
make sure that he had understood all of what Ami had said.
< Hurry up then, we don't want to miss the bus. > Called out
Ami as she waved to the driver, starting to run towards the bus stop.
"Hey, wait up, I cant understand it when you talk that fast." Con
called after her as he too started to sprint for the corner.
Outside the theater Conrad noticed two figures approaching
them that looked disturbingly familiar. [No, it cant be. This is real life
not a show] Con was forced to change his mind a moment later. The
two figures had spotted Ami and were now making a bee line straight for
him.
The first of the two girls to reach them was an absolute knockout.
She had long silky blond hair held back by a red ribbon and eyes that were
even bluer than Conrads own.
< Mina, meet my friend Conrad. He is here from the U.S. for
a few months and I am helping to teach him Japanese. Conrad meet one
of my best friends, Mina> Said Ami introducing them.
<Uh, hello its very nice to meet you> stammered Con, not really
believing the evidence before his eyes. [They cant be real, the sailor scouts
are just a bit of fiction right?]
His mind was in such turmoil that he almost missed being introduced
to Lita. As the four walked towards the theater he felt himself relaxing and
started to talk about what college he wanted to go to and what he was planing
on doing with his life. He was relaxed until he noticed what movie they were
going to go see. [ how did that get here before aring in the U.S.] he wondered.
< Wow that was really cool > said Mina as they lest the theater.
< You could say that again.> agreed Lita < I mean what are the odds
against an american anime being that good.>
< Well they would be.... approximately one in 67 million.> replied
Ami after a brief pause.
< 67 what?> asked Conrad not having understood the conversation.
"Oh, those are what the odds against having an american anime as
as good or better than japanice anime being shown in japan are." answered Ami.
< Thank you all for taking me to the movie with you. I liked it allot.
See you in school tomorrow.> Con said before walking back towards the
embassy.
Passing by Juuban he had an Idea that he just had to check out. He
entered the school and went to the library. First he looked in this years
yearbook. No luck Ami, Mina, and Lita were the only names he was familiar
with. Next he searched the older ones and again came up blank. Last but
not least he searched the phone book for any mention of a Tsukino Usagi
or Serena.
Arriving late back at the embassy he lay in bed trying to think.
After a while he decided that he was not, going insane. It was all just a
huge coincidence. Ami, Lita, and Mina were not part of a secret team to
defend the earth, there was no Moon princes, he was not living in a cartoon.
There was no sailor moon. Now feeling a lot better he drifted off to sleep.
