Hi I just got a new computer and while I should
be very happy I am not realy sure. It has windows
95, I sak you should I give it a chance or trash
it and put in windows 3.1?

Immediately dump Win95 into the nearest dumpster and,
if you choose to continue using Windows, install
Win 3.1 (or equivalent). I know too many people
(personally and net-friends) who have had too much
trouble with Win95 destroying their machines. The
kindest thing I've ever heard said about
Win95 is that it uninstalls well.

As much as I hate to disagree with my esteemed colleague, whose opinion
I respect immensely, I must say that when I installed Windows 95 a year
ago, I chose to "dual boot" my system, that is, give myself the option
of booting back to old Windows 3.11.

Just last month, after having never used Windows 3.11 since the upgrade,
I dumped the old OS and freed up mucho disk space.

I also got Windows 95 installed at the IT Department of my former job
(and to forestall the snide comments, I didn't get asked to leave
because of that ^_^). Everyone who tried it loved it, we got it to work
with minimal difficulties, and it seriously reduces the crashing and
limited resources of Windows 3.11.

Windows NT is a great OS; too bad it doesn't play many games. :)

Let's hope this doesn't degrade into an OS war. Let me just end by
saying that, eventually, all new software will be written for Windows 95
and above; so, to keep up, it's best you start learning it now. My
experience and the experience of others makes me think you won't regret
it.
