The next way was proposed by a Mexican Grad student at a Welsh University
(Albuquirre???). He proved a way to go faster than the speed of light without
violating relativity. Bloodyy brilliant, I say!! He's stirred up a hornet's
nest. It requires moving SPACE itself...nothing with mass can go faster than

I immediately think "Spacefold" here until I read down below...

the speed of light and the shortest amount of time between two objects is
the speed of light, but if you up and move a chunk of space where the speed of
light is constant still internallly...;) It requires a massiive positive mass
(x jupiter masses) in front of the ship and a equally massive NEGATIVE mass
(not antimatter...negative matter...the stuff you open up wormholes with)
behind
you. You don't experience acceleration (space is moving, 'not' you) and no
time
dialation takes place as well as unlimited speeds are theoretically possible...
A nifty little twist I came up with is that you can use it as a 'weak'
force field.
Geoffrey Landis and I discussed it and it works nicely...at mutliple earth
masses
instead of jupiter...(4x earth and you can repell anythiing moving up to 20%
of the speed of light....).

Parts of here sounds like the KK ships in the Flinx of the Commonwealth
books...only in those the singularities (masses of stars compressed into a
tiny point IIRC) to pull the ship along...not that great, seing as how it's
a Science Fiction book but the analogy seems to fit...
