So, should I go on with 'The Irates take a Stance'?
*grin* [For those of you who are TOTALLY clueless,
these are sung to the tune of G&S's 'Pirates of
Penzance'.
-Christopher Willmore
Poor G&S are undoubtably revolving in their graves at about Mach 3. Go for
it. But wouldn't "The Mikado" be a more appropriate choice? :)
"As someday it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list, I've got a little list
Of Fanfiction Authors who might well be underground
And who never would be missed, they never would be missed!
You are both truly dangerous people. I take it you've been listening to
Anna Russell?
(Note for those who don't recognize the name -- Anna Russell was a
would-be opera singer in the '50s. A problem with her voice kept her from
achieving high rank as a singer, and she became a comedian instead. Many
of her comic sketeches are based on opera -- including what's probably
her most famous piece, a half-hour long analysis of Wagner's Ring Cycle
["Ride of the Valkyries" et al]. Back to relevancy -- she also did a
piece called "How to Write Your Own Gilbert and Sullivan Opera," laying
out a formula for constructing a G&S comic operetta, and demonstrating
with an example set among the New York Upper Crust:
"And it's very very funny
When you've lots and lots of money
To be horrible to those with none,
To be horrible to those with none!"
*Very* good stuff.)
There's the ego-boosting self-insertion fic that makes the Author God
Like the saga about Crys (I've got him on the list)
Or garbage about power-tea and prophets shaped like hogs
They'd none of them be missed, They'd none of them be missed.
Indeed. Come along quietly.
"And those who spam with spam of doom, with puns that will not die,
They'd none of them be missed, I *know* they'd not be missed!"
