I'm late answering mail, so this is probably answered already. But, yes, 
homosexual relationships are shown on cartoons in Japan. Zoicite was (if 
you didn't know) originally a _man_. Which makes "his" relationship with 
Malachite (Kunzite) all the more risque for North American audiences.

One of the biggest debates about new episodes (if and when they come) is 
what they're going to do with these two. It's probably fairly easy to 
cut some of the risque scenes (I'm talking Michiru and Haruka if you 
haven't guessed) and keep them "just friends".

Of course, "we" will know... but "we" will probably have fansubbed SMS 
episodes, anyway.
