That's what katakana is for, foreign loan words.  And they're not all
English -- for example, "Arubaito" (part-time job) is from German (I think)

Katakana is used in conjunction with Hiragana to write loan words;
however, it is also used for formal missives (telegrams, military or
official orders, proclaimations, etc.
   "Arubaito" comes from the German "Arbeit"(work), I believe.
