    I guess I better add my $.02 here. I don't really think that Japanese
should be used when there is an appropriate english translation ("sempai"
<SP> is one word that I can't think of a good translation for, since our
school system is so different, and we don't generally refer to people as
"upperclassman" to their face). The reason for this is that what we are
writing, is, essentially a subtitled version of the story. We do the
translation for the reader, and we should do the translation completely.
Think about it, would you like the subtitlers to put "Nani??" down whenever
a character says "Nani??" No, you want them to use "What??" in the subtitle.

Oh well, off my soapbox now.

        Amen.  I've gotten lost in more than a couple of stories due to the
overuse of Japanese, and it's not very often that a story interests me
enough for me to go back and figure out what's going on when it's the
language that I get lost in (the exception usually being a conjunction of
technobable and logic).
