Warped reality part 4.02
Once more walking along oblivious to the outside world, Conrad
was too involved reading his Japanese text book to notice the upcoming
collision. Their senses honed and perfected for just such an emergency Con
and Ami evaded the upcoming collision perfectly. Unfortunately they were
a bit too perfect, Ami easily took one step left and continued on smack dab
into Con who had mirrored her exactly by taking one step right. Under
normal circumstances they would have been fine. However having been
brought up under different sets of traffic laws caused their evasive maneuvers to
fail and they both ended up in the grass beside the walk.
<I'm sorry>
<Pardon me>
<It's my fault I should have been looking where I was going>
<Ami?>
<Conrad?>
As Conrad helped Ami back to her feet she started to giggle. It was
quickly contagious and they were both soon fighting a loosing battle, trying
to keep from collapsing with laughter. A little while later after calming down
and retrieving their books they continued down the street together.
<Would you like to go see a movie with Mina and Lita?> Ami asked.
<I already talked to them on the phone and they said that it was OK with
them if I brought you along. I was actually on my way to ask you when
we bumped, heh, into each other.>
<Sure I would really like that.> Conrad replied. <I could use the chance to
relax now that all of that work is done with.> [Wow what a lucky day, first I
get an A- on my English test then I get back into kendo. Now I am going on
a `date' with Ami and Mina and Lita. My day cant get much better then this.]
<Well are you going to tell me how you did at your kendo tryout?> asked an
exasperated Ami. <I'm not going to wait all day to hear the news.>
< It was great. All of those extra practices really paid off. > He replied.
< I got back in despite having to do it blindfolded.> His train of though was
suddenly interrupted by a flash of motion all around.
<What was that?> Ami asked. <Did you see something go by?>
<Sort of, more like a ripple than anything else> he replied. <But we should
hurry or we will miss the movie.>
Arriving at the theater they received a shock. The movie that they were
Going to see Elfquest that had finally been completed and imported from the
U S of all places wasn't showing. Instead they saw advertisements for Star Wars
3 The Clone Wars. yet more confusing was the fact that Mina And Lita were not
there to meet them like they had promised.
<Uh oh,> Conrad said. Noticing the show dates underneath the poster he continued
< Um Ami, we have a big problem.> while pointing them out to her.
Expecting shock, confusion, or panic Ami's reaction took him completely
by surprise. Instead of the aforementioned emotions she calmly walked over to a
nearby newspaper stand and checked the date.
<Your right we have a very big problem.> she responded in a strange tone of voice.
<I don't suppose that you remember anything between then and now?>
<I only remember walking here with you and then that weird ripple effect.>
Conrad told her worry filling his voice. <I think that we need to find out
what's going on and if possible what happened to us three years ago.>
As the worried couple walked back towards Ami's house wondering
What they were going to when they got there.
<With some luck my parents wont be home and we can learn what happened to
us.> Ami said. < I think that we might have been transported in time because
I find it highly unlikely that we both would forget the exact same amount of time
and also be going to the same theater three years later. Added to that is the fact
that neither of us seems to have aged any and there seems to be conclusive evidence
to support my theory. It is also possible that this is what happened to you earlier,
however the fact that you were checked into a hotel argues strongly towards
amnesia in your previous loss of memory.>
<Well I think that it is about time that I told you something Ami> Conrad said
nervously, his gaze slipping down to his feet. < I well think that it might be more
than just time displacement because well you are sort of well, a um, a ...>
< What are you trying to say to me> Ami asked.
< Well,> Conrad said getting back his courage "Youareananimecharachterfromashowcalled
sailormoonfromwhereistartedoriginaly>Gasp<atfirstIthoughtthatitwasalljustacoincidence
butnowIdontthinkthatitwas>Gasp<IthinkthatsomehowIwastransportedtoanalternatedimention
andnowyouhavebenpulledalongwithmetowhereeverwearenow.>he finished with a sigh
of relief at getting it all off of his chest.
<What?> Ami exclaimed, < I'm an Anime character?, what do you mean and what do you
know about me? Tell me now Damnit>
Now very cowed and completely surprised by this totally unexpected reaction by Ami
Conrad started to tell her all he knew about the show Sailor Moon. Unsurprisingly
she didn't take it all that well.
< I cant believe that you didn't tell me this earlier.> she said < But I think that you should
realize that I am not that Mizuno Ami even if I do resemble her quite a bit. And also
that was definitely not a youma infested city being plagued by mysterious beings from
another dimension. And finally even though it bore a superficial resemblance to
the fictional world of sailor moon it was not it. Now lets hurry up and find out
what we can about where we are now and also if either of us know anything about
this dimensions happenings. > Having completed her initial tirade Ami now continued
in a much calmer and rational voice. < If what you are saying is true then what for our
worlds was fiction might have been loosely influenced or inspired by the happenings of
nearby dimensions and in that way give us some very important knowledge of what is
different about where we are now.>
It took him a few minuets but after first recovering from her outburst and
then piecing together what she had said Conrad found himself agreeing with her.
< Your right, we need to find out as much as we can about where we are now and
why it is 1999 instead of 1996, come to think of it it was a month later when I arrived
in your world and so the world hopping might not be instantaneous or time might not
be a constant between universes.> Con told her. < I think that the best way to find out
what's going on is to find a news paper and read the headlines, or barring that watch the
ten o'clock news.>
< Your right, I also think that we should take stock of what we have with us. We cant
count on having anything else here to rely on.> She said.
As they continued on towards Ami's house they took stock of their possessions.
Ami had the blue dress that she was wearing, an empty bento box, a bookbag with
several text books in it, and her purse witch contained her Identification card, student
ID, and the equivalent of about 30 dollars in yen. Conrad was a little bit better off. He
had his original outfit of tan pants, shirt and windbreacker as well as his kendo Gi and
sword. Besides that he was also carrying his ever-present USA cup bag with his passport,
a few books and wallet with around 60 dollars worth of yen. All in all it was Not a very
good list of resources. At best they could only live for a few days off of it. Their
situation didn't get any better after reaching Ami's house, or rather where Ami's house
should have been. Instead there rose a large dojo with the words Tendo anything goes
school of indiscriminate grappling written in kenji on the door.
[Uh oh] thought con, [this could be really bad.] Ami, seeing his expression asked him
<what's the matter do you know something about this that I don't?>
<You could put it that way.> He replied, < Only one way to find out for sure though>
With that he went up to knock on the door and confirm his fears.
