Folks, I've seen this time and time again and I'm getting a tad frustrated
(nothing against you personally here Jeff). But why post this privately? The
ratio of spam to actual talk about fanfiction is so overbalanced on the spam
side that it's a welcome sight to see C&C on the list itself. I arrived on
the list shortly after it was created, and back in the fall of 95 many
people posted their C&C to the list itself. Why? Can't explain everyone's
motives, but I did it for two reasons: First, this appeared to be a list
where authors could
post their rough drafts and have other authors and readers help them polish
their drafts. Secondly, the public posting of C&C on a story also helped get
more readers interested. Kinda like reading what film critics have to say
about a movie and then wondering what the movie is really like. I'm not an
avid Ranma reader, but Jeff and Jeanne's C&C caught my eye and convinced me
to put this fic in my "To Be Read" folder. Don't know if I will read it but
it sounds like a good story. I would really like to see alot more C&C make
it to the list. If the C&C contains information more suited to a private
reply then so be it. But if the discussion of fanfics on the list itself can
generate a larger readership and in turn help the author with his/her craft,
then why isn't it being done more often? Don't be shy folks! Post it to the
list :)
