I hate just blowing up a star though. Done too often in the Star Wars
novels. ( a la Starcrusher or Correllan trilogy)

How about some weird cosmic phenominion(sp) that CUTS a star in two equal
pieces, separate them oh...one Mercury orbit diameter apart, and watch
what happens. ;) (From a BIG distance away )
