i don't think that cruel and unusual punishment is warranted ANYWHERE.
i am in favor of jail for a long time for rapists, personally...that
keeps 'em away and hopefully makes 'em sorry.  jail is no party.
the whole point of our punishment system, imho, is 1. to keep the public
safe by sequestering criminals  2. to instill a sense of remorse in the
criminal and hopefully cause him not to commit crimes any more.

In concept - I agree - how ever, some prisions in America are 1 step away
from country clubs.  Others are close to club-med.  

your points :
1) Good idea - should work
2) even better idea - problem is, we don't succeed in doing that.  How many
criminals out there don't give a sh*t when they get out and go right back to
what they were doing that got them locked up in the first place.  I dont'
have stats, but I've been led to believe that it's a hell of a big
percentage number.
