posts.   I only have one comment that I will add.  Acts born of hate
cannot be undone or rendered appeased by another act of hate.  But who am
I to say.

I agree, however, I believe that they do have a deminishing effect on future
crimes.  A person seeing a convicted criminal recieving a lasting punishment
(say, loosing a hand for stealing, or a public flogging for something) s/he
may rethink their plans and not do it.

     Not true. In fact, states which have enacted the death penalty since
1972 have had murder rates increasing (as a percentage) beyond states with
the death penalty still outlawed.
