Target audience?  Heterotranvestites, maybe....  It's hard to tell.
Personally, I feel that Lestat and Louis and the rest of the Vampires
were bisexual.
     In "The Vampire Lestat", Lestat spells it out quite well. They were
attracted to the strong people. Women, in the 1700's and earlier, were
portrayed as being generally weaker. This explains Louis' facination with
Babette and Claudia--they were both markedly stronger than most women.
     The opening of "The Vampire Lestat" has Lestat crawling out from the
ground, and being pleased with the strength women are starting to have.
