Ukyou goes through so much suffering in fanfic (and in
mine in particular), for the same reason that Ryouga seems
to:  they both seem to be more fragile than the others.
Ranma and Akane argue their true feelings, Kodachi and
Kunou are merely insane, and Shampoo and Mousse are on a 
totally different plane - wacky suffering, maybe?

But Ukyou and Ryouga keep their feelings bottled up - 
Ranma's violence is just through anger, but Ryouga's relies
on depression.  Thus, he needs something to be depressed 
about.  As for Ukyou, I agree with a previous poster who
says that Ukyou doesn't have a real "other option" - except
Tsubasa or Konatsu, neither of whom I can really picture
her in *love* with.  Thus, a lot of "Ukyou gets shafted"
stories.

If Nabiki weren't so blase all the time, she might fall 
into this category too.  I mean, Kunou?  Get real.  We need
more Nabiki as neglacted middle child stories.

Hmmm.
