Mine have Nodoka in them... though she's taking about as much as an active
part as Genma and Soun...

I know, I've read them. And I've always wondered how you could have figured 
out that Ranma would be reunited with his mother and not learn about 
Akari and Konatsu yet.

Because Ranma's mother turned up in manga around the mid 20s while Akari
turned up at around manga 30 and Konatsu turned up in 35. :p It's a bit
hard to know about characters that don't exist... And it's pretty natural
for Ranma NOT to kill himself in the end of the manga.
