Well, as I said, I wrote that a year and a half ago.  At the time, the 
manga volume where Nodoka finally figure the curse out hadn't been 
written yet. :)

Do note that Nodoka stays around for the whole series and after part 3 
took a larger part...and if I were ever to write a followup, I would 
continue to use Nodoka as an active character.

As for it not fitting into the manga continuity...well, neither does 
Daigakusei no Ranma (in that, Nodoka still doesn't know about the curse), 
or a lot of Ranma fiction on out there.  There's nothing wrong with 
alternate storylines...in fact, with Ranma it's pretty hard to write 
something unique or interesting that DOES fit into the storyline. :)
