Eagerly awaiting the new movie on May 14... have you seen the Fox preview

Yes, the one flaw in an otherwise great series (the rather cheesy nature
of the special effects) should be corrected.  Though I hope they don't
change the feel of the show too much. ;)  (For example, they need to keep
the sort of cheesy grinding sound effect for the TARDIS' phasing in and out.

My greatest concern about the Doctor Who movie is that they will forget
what made it a legend: the characters.  Watching Doctor Who for the special
effects  is like watching a bunch of first-graders singing for the musical
harmonies.  I am concerned that, in their quest for good special effects,
that they will neglect the characterization and just make it another
average stupid sci-fi show.

That's been a major concern in the discussion on rec.arts.drwho... 
Although there are some people who are unreasoningly *convinced* it will 
be bad, because it's a U.S. co-production, most people are willing to 
keep an open mind until it airs. I'd say there's a slight bias in favor 
of the show, because of the number of British/BBC people involved with 
the movie.
