"Lies" does indeed start out with Ranma dead.  It is several 
years later, in fact, and Ryouga and Akane are married, sorta happily, 
and most of the cast has moved on with their lives.  Ryouga is even cured 
of his curse!  Why, then, do dreams of Ranma keep tormenting him?  Read 
it and find out. ;)  I'm certainly not going to give it away.  It's on 
the ftp.std.com pub/anime-fan-works/Ranma site.
