Yes, it's bad to slavishly follow someone else's guidelines - but
nobody's suggesting that. All people have been doing is saying what
makes for a good fanfic in their eyes.
It would appear that in my case, the Saotome syndrome has struck
and I have opened my big mouth without having my relatively little brain
attached. I must apologize, and clarify my position.
First, I posted all that because one of my biggest nightmares is
checking my email one day and seeing fifty fanfics, all with different
authors, different plots and different characters, but ALL BASICALLY
IDENTICAL IN STYLE AND FORMAT.
That will never happen. Different stories and different ideas call
for different writing styles. Second, we are different people. To expect
me to write like Hitomi or Biles or anyone else is ridiculous. We have
each had different schooling in the writing art, different experiences
to shape our stories, and different outlooks on life to give our fics mood.
Also, a good fic writer will experiment and try different styles and forms,
contributing to the variety of fanfiction available. Now that I have used
the word "different" far too often than I should, I leave you with the
following suggestion: Read the fics. Look at the styles out there before
you go off making such a claim.
