How about something in a medival european place.  Say the 10th or eleventh
century with a few revisions?

It's disgusting: five and a half years of university for a useless degree.
*sigh*  And my 'formal' computer training is zero to none, so that
effectively blows that idea out of the water as well.

That's how a lot of us feel.  Use the internet to give yourself a job.
