I'm somewhat intrigued by the idea of a somewhat
more well-adjusted Kodachi - not too much more so, or you'll lose a lot
of her unique flavor, but perhaps in this universe, she managed to come
to terms better with her mother's death (I tend to operate under the
assumption that Mrs. Kuno died long ago, and that was what sent the three
surviving Kunos into the states we know them today), and she's now not
nearly as obsessive about love.

There could be some changes, Kodachi might well be a friend of Akane's,
made while she was suffering Kunou's torments. But so far the author has
not given us any reason to expect great changes in Kodachi.

Kodachi does have some good points, but she acts like a spoiled brat; I'd
really like to see how she'd turn out with "better influences."

And since Kinuko is sort of going to
be filling the Kodachi/Shampoo 'Unscrupulous Chaser' role, a revised
Kodachi might make an interesting contrast. Or perhaps she's already
attached - she found a 'true love' earlier, for instance. (I've always
wondered, to tell the truth, if there was any significance to her 'I
almost gave up dating boys' comment. Did it just mean she was going to
give up dating in general, or... I'm probably reading too much into it,
really. Still, she and Azuka the White Lily might make an interesting
pair if they weren't rivals.)

As I recall her statement in her introductory episode it was more: "I've
spent so much time winning, I haven't had time for a real boyfriend"
[Insert initial collision with Ranma] "What a hunk! He'll do!"

The exact wording escapes me, but the above should be fairly close.

In the Viz manga translation, it goes like this:

"Oh, the gray, dreary life of a girl's school! I'd given up hope of
finding a man to love! Ohh! To think that such a wonderful encounter was
awaiting me!" <Dream picture of Ranma carrying her off on a white horse>
Doesn't really fit either scenerio.

And I always thought Kodachi got really interested in Ranma after she
realised that she'd have to fight Akane for him. It is clear that
Kodachi hates losing, at anything. :-)

Frito: Naaah, she was ga-ga with goo-goo eyes from the start. White horse
an all.
