EXCELLENT opening. If it hasn't be influenced by one of my favorite sets
of stories (the _Callahan's_ books by Spider Robinson) I'll be very
surprised...and if the author hasn't read the Callahan's books, he should.
:) The format of a bar in which multiple stories, involving the reactions
of the characters we grow familiar with over time (like Doc Webster, Jake,
Fast Eddie, and of course, Mike Callahan, from the Callahan books) to
strange events...stories written not from the point of view of those who
whom the events happened, but to the outsiders who are touched by these
events in some way...the format has always worked very well if used
correctly, and you definitely used it correctly here. I look forward to
seeing the other stories set there.
Wow....ya nailed the Callahan influence perfectly. Must of fergot to put
me anti-psychic shield up last night :-)
The Teufel isn't exactly a Callahan clone....the motives aren't quite
as noble, the company is rougher, and the bartender...well more on Otto
later. But the basic chaos-is-a-constant-here principle is the same, as
is the bar theme. I always felt that it would make a decent anime
premise...again, muct of the themes are similar.
Although this is the only one featuring Anime characters, there are
about 12 previous TFBT stories floating around.
Thanks to the kind Mr. Blackman for his comments.
