I had to give this one a lot of thought ... but I came up with a
very simple suggestion: Umino is Tristam; Mark is Nephrite. Yes, I
realise that Nephrite turns good in the end ... but then, so does Mark,
allowing Tristam and Isoud to be buried together. None of this changes
the fact that while they were alive, Nephrite and Mark were total SOBs ...
(In at least one of the versions of the saga I've read, Mark is a
pedophile ... this is the version told through Gwenhwyvere's eyes that
came out recently in three books.)
