Second, I don't think it fits into the story for Ranko to
ask him to do something like that (engagement) when he's admitted love

She knows he doesn't really know Akane yet, anyways.
But that's not the point I was trying to make. He's said he loves Akane.
I think she has more of his happiness in mind than hers...I
think that they're set on a course to becoming bro/sis best friends...you
know, the kind of friend you'd start a relationship with if you two
weren't such good friends. (If that doesn't make sense, oh well...it's
happened, more than once, to me.)
In other words, not lovers but more than friends. Soulmates, if you will.
