Hitomi, importance should not be measured in how long of an impact u make on
people, but how strong the impact is now. Out of all the people who have
ever lived on this planet, how many have actually had their contributions
remembered even 10 years after they made them? A few billion? Out of how
many Quadrillion people that have ever lived on this planet? U see only the
large prize as important, not the smaller victories which can add up to
something *MUCH* more important. Do not compare yourself with those who
have already achieved greatness, that is guaranteed to make you *look* like
a failure. Instead, look at them before they had achieved greatness. U will
see that they were not much better than normal people, that either caught a
lucky break or worked hard, despite the failures, and made themselves succeed.
U will *never* achieve the recognition u describe above *unless* u stop
being so negative about urself and give ur all. Being so critical has to
be keeping u from doing ur best work, so u cannot improve unless u give
up this self-destructive vandetta against urself.
I only compare myself to myself.
Hitomi
Ok, once a long time ago, in a fanfic far, far away, there were two friends.
These two friends were named Gryphon and MegaZone. Now, every once in a while
MegaZone would get a little stupid, and try to alienate every one else around
him. Gryphon would take this incredibly personally, and get really angry at
his friend's stupidity, and yell at him a whole bunch.
Now I don't know you personally, Hitomi, nor do I claim to be anywhere near
on a karmic level with Gryphon or MegaZone, but I have been a great fan
of your stories and have been watching this thread, and through it, getting
an idea of your self opinion. This said...
GRYPHON... RANT... ACTIVATION!!!
GET A GRIP!!! YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT WRITER, ON A LEVEL WITH JUST ABOUT ANY
OTHER PERSON I'VE READ!!! And, yes, I include you with David Brin, and
David Gerrold, and Anne McCaffrey, and Larry Niven, and Harlan Ellison (well,
maybe not Harlan...) and just about ANY of the other writers out there which
I enjoy reading out there.
I have been TRYING to get some little pathetic gasp of writing out, and hearing
someone like you complain that you can't write worth a damn REALLY frustrates
me! I can't write a story that goes over three pages, and here you are,
throwing out stories that sweep me up and capture my imagination, EVEN if they
were based off of other people's ideas, it takes REAL GENIUS to take an idea,
even someone else's, and turn it into an engaging and interesting idea which
is sustainable for ten, twenty, or even a hundred pages.
END RANT MODE
Sorry about that, I just had to get that out of my system. Please, gambatte
kudasai! Stop being so humble, and take some pride in your work!
Fnord.
