OK, so I'm commenting on the star, so sue me :)

This is two and a half years of time awake. This *excludes* hypersleep.
Notice how long the story pegs them as being asleep, later on. About 200.
Assume constant acceleration at one gee for the first half of the trip,
then constant deceleration at one gee. The velocity will always be
changing.

I'm assuming that your ship is travelling at just under the speed of
light, and is 2.5ly away at this point. Assuming the ships launching
point was Earth, you need a star 12.5ly away. That would have to be

CD-39deg14192 at exactly 12.5ly

Although you could stretch it to encompass these stars:

Luyten 725-32 at 12.4ly ( as opposed to Luyten 726-8A/B at 8.4 ly, so
don't be puttin' just Luyten :) )
Kapteyn's star at 12.7ly
Krueger 60A/B at 12.8ly ( binary star system )

If you're not travelling at c, then ne'er mind :)

I never do mind...
