Whilst Kai has *far* outsurpassed his father, I was referring to
Phelon's uncle Morgan. Phelon's father was an excellent mechwarrior
but Phelon is undoubtably better. No-one ( unconditional no-one! )
will ever reach the standards of the great Morgan Kell. Only Yorinaga
Kurita came even remotely close and it took him 20 years of retreat
and meditation and even that wasn't enough.
Kai and Phelon are both excellent warriors, with Kai the more
skilled and natural ( pity about the self doubts! ), but neither are
even close to the class of Morgan Kell.
Huh? Morgan _is_ Phelan's father (Morgan Kell + Salome Ward,
needed Dragoons' help to have kids). Are you thinking of Patrick Kell's
son Chris, the yakusa?
Morgan Kell rocks because 1) He is a charismatic leader, 2) He is
a top-notch strategist, and 3) He's got some quasi-mystical power that
makes it impossible for his mech to be targeted by opposing mechs.
Ability (3) is not absolute, though; Dan Allard was able to get around it
by disabling his targeting computer. Also, Justin Allard (Kai's dad) was
able to fight Morgan to a draw in a simulator battle (the machines gave out
before the combatants did.
Natasha Kerensky was probably a better mechwarrior than Morgan,
but that's a hard one to call. She did have the most "attitude" of any
pilot in the Inner Sphere _or_ the Clans, and Phelan seems to be
following in her footsteps. Give him time, then compare him to his father.
