by the way, if there really was a good times virus,
the very act of downloading the mail from the 'net
(in the case of a windows/dos mail client) into memory
would activate it, no?  after all, reading the mail
and downloading it is really just loading into mem.,
all things considered.

Just having something in memory doesn't activate it.
Either a program has to call that specific piece of
information (in the case of binary viruses, which are
machine-specific) or run an interpreter of that code-form,
such as the Word Macro virus that's been running loose
recently.
