Excerpts from mail.poker: 18-Mar-96 The End of a Nickname by Trisha
Sebastian@compuse
The poster formerly known as Monchichi said this:
1. No more nicknames for me. Period. (can you tell I really *hate*
this stuff?)
and this:
I have another bargaining tool. For those of you who might be
interested in a copy of "how Damon met Saf", I have it available on
request, by email. In Foxtrot's case, however...I need a nickname
retraction *first*. *very wide grin*
First, to answer DJC's plea: I retract the nickname "Monchichi, the Monkey
Boy" from all future malings (like this one) and will refer to you as
"That guy over there who shares the same first name and last
initial of my fiancee". When you look at it in retrospect, Monchichi is
just easier to type:)
"mailings".
Hm. Temporary nickname suggestion: Panda has taken to calling me "D-man".
That'll work for now, although not in the Poker Game. I'd rather just be
called "Damon" in that, since I'd be on the order of fortyish or so, and
would rather not be pegged with an "affectionate" nickname.
However, I have to call you something other than your given name if you
don't like Mon^H^H^that other name. I have made a solemn vow that there
will only be one Damon C. in my life and his middle name isn't Jason.
That's understandable...
Saf had this to say about the whole business:
"Monchichi"? What a nickname! I take it you're going to suggest to
Panda for his _official_ nickname? ^_-
I'll have words with Saf, too. She'll very likely see the last post I
sent to the FFML before she responds to this.
I already have suggested it among others to Panda, and he rather liked
it. Here was his reply when I initially started making suggestions:
I like these last two; "Monchi-chi The Monkey Boy" :) He'd hate you for
it but I think it'd be a hoot!
Panda was correct. I do hate it. It seems to have struck a rather
sensitive nerve.
So actually, Panda is to blame for putting two separate suggestions
together ( which were "Monchichi" and "The Monkey Boy") and
coming up with "Monchichi, the Monkey Boy".
But I do take credit for both names and as a gesture of good faith, I
also take it back.
*nod* Good.
However, I am throwing open any suggestions from you, the MLers as
to what we should call "That guy over there" because he just can't go
running around without a nickname, and the one he picked himself
("Captain") is the name of a character in Bentley's imagination. Even
if Bentley didn't mind, then there is the problem of Bents' character
being female and "That guy" being male.
In the Poker Game, then, I won't have a nickname. As to whether I'll
acquire one otherwise, we can do what happens in real life: *ask* the
person about the nickname first before one starts calling him by it.
It cuts down on hurt feelings. (yes, mine were; and no, I don't care to
go into just why they were)
So, suggestions for his new nickname can be sent to either
me at <103707.3614@CompuServe.com> or Panda <askuse@execulink.com>
and we will compile them and put them up for voting. And if someone just
*happens* to like the suggestion of Monchichi, then we'll have to add it
to the list.
I reserve the right to reject a nickname, whether any voting takes place
or not.
:>I just love it when I get my way... 8)
We'll see about that. }:-) (devilish smiley)
Incorrect. Remember, you're talking to the editor of the Poker Game,
here. If I'm given enough reason, I might see clear to doing a little
unscrupulous "editing"...
In other words, no funny business. Pun intended.
Foxtrot the Furryous
...would now be a bad time to ask for my copy of "When Damon Met Saf"?
You retracted "Monchichi", albeit with reservations. I guess...
