Remembering how she had reacted, Akane gently opened the outer

Symbolic of his already having lost his virginity in other form?

     Possibly the girl who drowned committed suicide because someone
stole her virginity? An idea which would keep with the "tragic story"
theme of the pools.

Ranma:  "We tried.  But the guide said that only one curse from a 
	pool is permanent at a time.  One of us would have to die 
	before the other can be cured." 

Ahhh.
Of course, that would also mean Ranma and Genma could never be cured at 
same time either...

     Genma could, provided he finds a pool for men (as opposed to boys).
