Dear James,

I just read your submission, H:\WARMWIN.TXT. "Season's Cycle"

You might want to download my "Winter" from the remailer (Send a mail message to winter@ranma.net, no subject, no message body required. a couple minutes later the story will appear in your inbox.) Ain't technology wonderful?

Hmm, it sure looks familiar, ne? at least in the opening parts.
I guess it must have made quite an impression on you, which was, after all,
my goal. ;)

I wrote "Winter" in November/December of 1994, just in time to be too early for the 1995 best of Ranma Fanfict contest. Spring, Summer and Autumn followed in sequence, each a stand alone story, with a related theme. (Autumn
as eligible for the contest by some 22 Minutes, based on PST, Phew!)

My "Winter" was an experiment in trying to explore the sounds, sights and smells inside the Tendou home, with Ranma and Akane acting a little more
civily towards each other.

If you are seeking inspiration, I suggest you do what I do, close
your eyes and look around inside. Many of the scenes in the story were
right there in my head, all I had to do was write them down. For an example,
I grew up in Northern Minnesota, and in the winter boards in the roof would
make these incredible popping noises in the middle of the night, guarenteed
to dump 4 ounces of adrenalin right into your heart. Thats where the creaking
handle on the bucket comes from in the story.

        J.
