I'm surprised by this observation. Are you saying by this that there
is no such thing as a good fanfic novel, or simply that most fanfic
writers are incapable of writing one?
One point: I think it depends on the universe you're writing in. IMHO,
RANMA 1/2 is more suited to short stories than to long ones. On the
other hand, any GUNDAM story would have to be at least a short novel to
be worth the effort.
True.
Well, there is at least one fanfic out that has only two parts out so far
but is over 258k in size - Careful Destiny [Ranma 1/2]. If he keeps up that
pace and goes on for more episodes, say 4 or 5 total, he will have over
500k worth of stuff, which is about, what, 200 pages? Sounds like novel
length to me! :) I can honestly say I haven't found it to drag at all,
every bit has been fascinating. Of course, I have yet to read the
earlier fanfics he is basing his on, so it might not be as exciting if
you have already read those.
Also True. I am currently awaiting the next installment of Careful Destiny
with baited breath.

MI = eps. 88 MB = eps. 56 - 8/20 episodes each to utter boredom or Fushigi!
Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling...
